World upside down
Late medieval Nuremberg was a good place to be at carnival. They knew how to dress and how to feast. In those times, somewhere around 1500, a marvelous collection of drawings was made: the Schembart or Schoenbart Book. A late sixteenth century copy is kept at UCLA (Coll 170 Ms 351): a colourful and high quality copy that shows the fantastic, the beyond imagination, the extravanganza of late medieval and early modern carnival.
